I am going to reevaluate the colors on my site. I’m in the middle of a redesign as well. I’m going to do some more work on my palette.

When I was considering logo designs one of friend’s said “you have to go with that one, it’s your personal colors.” That was my favorite and is now my logo. It reflects my orange/red hair and blue eyes. This summer, inspired perhaps by my logo and website, I painted my office tangerine to help keep me energized and motivated. And I love it! Design is so important. When I visit a tired outdated website I don’t stay long. Such helpful info!

Textures and actual images are key too, and the topic of a whole other discussion. Same principle though, you need to use what fits. Like mixing prints in fashion, it takes careful observation.

Two more things I love regarding colour are using textures instead of all Plain Jane colours and also using fab photos containing colours that complement the website.

That’s okay, with the red as an accent, the splash of blue for the optin and the gold/yellow as a majority of the site I didn’t think ketchup and mustard at all. That blue also picks up the color of your eyes.

It’s interesting when you say you think in sound for colors. What would a website sound like?

Although I know I have a big splash of red that’ll be live soon, didn’t think of the mustard and ketchup, haha. Also, I realize that my Etsy site has no color relation at all to my Funnermother site(s). Thanks for bringing my eye to this. xx a

Color can have such a subtle yet powerful impact. As a musician I always think in “color”, equating certain sounds to certain colors to certain emotions. Thanks for the tips about creating a color palette, I’ll try it out!

What else is confusing for you that you’d like translated? Tell me what perplexes you the most about a design process and I’d be happy to post about it.

And it’s even harder when they look different on every screen. Using color pallets and actual hex numbers go a long, long way to clearing up communications. At least if you’re looking at something and grab the hex number, you can give that to your designer and know for sure that’s the same color being used.
