I also drew a blank at the start of this post but quickly recognized a lot of vocab that my preteen daughter uses… She is an avid fan fic writer (Pokemon) and now I kind of get it! Thanks for sharing your expertise, Deb!

I had NO IDEA that writing games like that even existed … this is very fascinating! I am so glad you posted this, not just because I got to learn about something totally new to me, but because you’re sharing a great example of how following your passions and doing something you loved connected you with the right person (Wendi), which in turn led you down a new wonderful and exciting path — very awesome!

World of Warcrack! That’s the exact reason I never attempted playing that one. I had friends that were so addicted to it, one of them had a friend play for him while he was at work all day just so he could level up. South Park did a really good episode on it, that one is one of my favorites.

Glad you enjoyed the post!

Cool post, Deb. Truly had no idea but it sure sounds fun:) Classifying myself as a gamer would be a stretch (like, a big stretch), but I actually did enjoy adventure games once upon a time (Zelda, etc). My kids just started playing World of Warcraft and I can see how that could easily eat up hours of my day if I got involved:)

Let’s hear’em, Rache! Yes, I started gaming back in high school. Never did it before, ended up the fearless leader of our D&D campaign. Years passed, then I was introduced to the wonderful world of werewolves and vampires in ’98 and have been writing them nearly every day since then. Wendi came over to the Dark Side (where yes, we do have cookies, frequently) in ’06. She wanted to write creatively and the rest is history in the making.

Don’t get me started on 50 Shades. One thing I will say, an impromptu convo with an old friend of mine telling me how she couldn’t believe people actually liked it sparked her to champion Loyalties and we gained several very devoted Packmates. We’re the kind of genre that people say “Vampires and werewolves? Really? I’m so tired of those….oh wait, this book is really good…um…when’s the next one coming out? I don’t think I’ll be able to survive until then!”

Fan fic I have mixed feelings about. I understand it, I get that fans love the characters so much they want to live them too. But for me, it’s way more fun coming up with our own world and creating something that hasn’t been seen before.

What I like about releasing the final work into the world? Watching our readers discover the story. How exciting is it that we have all this social media available to authors everywhere, where we can talk to our fans and get instant feedback?

I had no idea you and Wendi came from the gaming world! Questions abound. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of that vibrant behind-the-scenes dimension. Of course Fifty Shades originated in Twilight fan fic, right? Clearly potent stuff! So cool about the collaborative side. As a published author who went the traditional publishing route, I find this fascinating. Course the worlds that got me intrigued were the housewives cooking up sultry tales involving homosexual exploits with, say, Spock and Kirk. Or Starsky and Hutch. I actually love the release of my work into the world. No longer mine. It becomes the resder’s, to imagine as they will. To claim. Groovy, Deb! Thanks!
