Sirius Sunday: The Peanut Butter of the Internet World
Written by Guest Writer - March 21, 2010 5 Comments
Dudes, if you’re just tuning in, you’ve been missing some great footage. And by footage I mean epic wisdom from the Sirius Graphix team. We have gold, man. Only we’re worth so much more than gold; we’re actually useful!
We, my friends, are peanut butter.
Peanut butter is the greatest stuff ever. Every workout-aholic knows that peanut butter is the best fit-person snack. It’s dense, relatively cheap, and has protein, healthy fat, carbs, and vegetables all inside!
Okay, okay, I’m lying about the vegetables. But it’s still awesome! Nutrients galore, packed into a cream so smooth (or chunky) you can smear it on a cracker and pop a mouthful of goodness in one speedy bite of healthiness.
I have a theory: If each American family gave up their peanut butter for a month and we sent all the uneaten Jiffy to a third-world country, the world would be a better place. Along those lines, if you printed off Sirius articles and handed them out to family members, or forwarded the links to your co-workers and friends, the world might just fall off its axis from an overload of goodness. Am I not right? Here, have a taste.
Smooth . . .
On Tuesday Deb asked another important question—not about size this time, but about security. How safe is your blog? she asks, and if you pursed your lips in confusion and didn’t have an answer, then this post is definitely for you.
The internet’s a great thing, but it is also a dangerous swampland where all kinds of frightening things dwell and hunt. Code theft, hacking, malicious destruction . . . you might not even believe the kinds of threats that you’re unwittingly facing every time you throw up a post. Be safe! Be secure! Don’t be one of those people whose story works as a lesson for future generations. Protect yourself! Check out WordPress Defender and see if you don’t sleep more soundly at night.
And, I must add, I was thrilled to see that our dear old heartfriend Maquis left a comment providing great info on some other things that the careful blogger should be aware of. We really do treasure your comments, friends, and it’s because we treasure the commentators. As always, thanks for reading.
Or Crunchy?
Allison graced us on Thursday with another lovely article on PHP—but it was a sad day, for it heralded the wrapping up of our PHP series. We’re sent off in tears with a last reminder about operators and a links to some resources the high-achieving among us can pursue to greater heights of PHP mastery. Adieu, adieu, adieu—
Just kidding!
Don’t be afeared, folks—Allison isn’t going anywhere! Sirius Graphix isn’t letting this good of a writer/coder/baker get away. HTML is her next subject, so shed a tear or two, wave farewell to the elePHPant in the room, and microwave some more popcorn for next week’s lesson. In Allison town, school never lets out.
Or Even Almond Butter!
Friday’s post brought us the comforting message that TPYOS AER OAKY!!!1
But not really. Wendi gave us a great lesson on the difference between perfectionism and persistence. Perfectionism is the strangling feeling you get before you start writing that tells you that it’s not worth it to even try to write because as soon as you do you’ll have typos. Dude! Can you imagine how many wonderful works of literature we’d not have if people only wrote one draft?
James A. Michener puts it perfectly: “I’m not a very good writer, but I’m an excellent rewriter.”
You are not judged by your first draft unless it’s your only draft—but if you don’t have a first draft, you’ll never have anything to show at all. So write! Create! Draw! Don’t be afraid of not measuring up; remind yourself again and again (and again and again, if that’s what it takes) that you are good enough already.
And then keep trying! Persistence is the creator’s best gift; so long as you are willing to dedicate the time and energy to make something great, you will be successful (which is why editing is such a good thing, and why typos are still not okay. Talk to us if you need a little external persistence when it comes to editing).
Mm, Mm, Good.
Stick around, friends, you won’t regret it. We have a lot of good things to say; here, on LLI, and now also on Saya no Uchi, which is a beautiful thing that you should definitely look into. If you’ve found something good, keep with it. So keep eating peanut butter, and keep reading Sirius Graphix!

@Deb: I’m beginning to wonder if I might have been lied to all this time. What if . . . what if peanut butter . . what if peanut butter IS awesomesauce?
@Allison: I think I’ve eaten peanut butter off a spoon …. twice in my life? The goodness overwhelms. Just like YOU! *snarkles* (That’s a mixture between “hug,” “giggle,” and “tackle.” I have no idea where the “sn” comes from.)
